TWO Comet country performers impressed on separate talent shows over the bank holiday weekend.

First up was Stevenage lifeguard Aleks Josh, who appeared on BBC One’s The Voice UK.

Aleks performed Dream a Little Dream live on stage on the Saturday, and on Sunday went comfortably through to the next round of the show, after receiving enough of the public votes.

In his VT prior to his performance on Saturday, the 17-year-old quipped: “I don’t know any other 17-year-old lad who is into swing and jazz, especially from Stevenage, you know.

“It feels good to be one of Danny’s top five, but up until this point, I don’t feel I’ve done my best.”

After his performance, which won a standing ovation from judges Danny O’Donoghue and Will.i.am, presenter Holly Willoughby said that the whole female population were swooning.

“I don’t know about dream a little dream, you are a little dream,” she joked.

“Not only were you flirting with her (the celloist) on the stage, which we were very jealous of, you were sort of flirting with the whole nation.”

Mentor Danny added: “I think there’s going to be a lot of girls, Aleks, dreaming a little dream tonight. Ladies and gentleman, the real Aleks Josh.”

Both Danny and Will.i.am compared the former St Nicholas Primary School and Nobel School pupil to Michael Buble, with Will.i.am joking “Michael Buble who?”, and Danny claiming Aleks was better than the star was at his age.

Yesterday (Monday), Stevenage dancer Yasmin Crotch appeared on Britain’s Got Talent with her dance group, Four Corners.

Nineteen-year-old Yasmin, who also went to Nobel School, lives in Great Ashby and has been performing from a young age. She is the only female in the group.

Simon Cowell said to the group that they were the best dance group on the show.

Amanda Holden added: “You have restored my faith in dance group in this competition, and I would love to see you in the final.”

But despite the positive comments, the group did not make it through, even though they were one of the favourites to earn a place in Saturday’s final.

They could, however, still earn a place through the judges’ wildcard, with the judges able to choose one act to go through.
