THE air ambulance was scrambled at lunchtime today (Thursday) after a man collapsed while out walking.

Paramedics were called to a field next to the woods in Fairlands Valley Park in Stevenage at 12.55pm.

Ambulance crews from Letchworth GC and Stevenage attended, and the Hertfordshire air ambulance was also called due to the nature of the call and the location of the patient.

Ambulance service spokesman, Gary Sanderson, attended the incident and said: "The air ambulance landed right next to the patient in the field.

"Following an assessment by the paramedics and a doctor from the helicopter, the man was deemed well enough to be taken to Lister Hospital by land ambulance.
