Action is needed now to ensure there is enough water for the future, Affinity Water has warned.

The water company is seeking customers’ views on its long-term water resources management plan, which covers 2020 to 2080.

With a rising population and some of the highest levels of water use in the country, the Government has designated the area as being under serious water stress.

Plans include building a new reservoir to store water, improving the region’s globally-rare chalk streams, fixing more leaks and helping customers reduce usage.

Affinity Water’s Marie Whaley said: “Within the next five years and beyond there may not be enough water to meet increases in demand, unless we make some changes.

“Doing nothing is not an option. We need to act now to ensure there is enough for the future.”
