The first winner of the Roaring Meg Community Heroes initiative has been announced, but we’re already looking for nominations for our next one.

Adam Howard from Letchworth was chosen by the Stevenage retail park for the monthly award after organising a Backtoschool-ival event in Hitchin this summer which saw more than 200 old pals come together for a day of sport.

The 23-year-old will receive a £100 cheque for his efforts, and said: “Hosting the event was a really rewarding experience – seeing so many people come together, with many playing sport for the first time since leaving school was fantastic.

“We’re hoping to have three different events in Baldock, Letchworth and St Albans next year, so I think the £100 will go towards spreading the word among schools – so we can get even more people involved and playing sport.”

The team at Roaring Meg – based off Monkswood Way – have joined forces with the Comet for the second year running, dishing out £100 cheques on a monthly basis in the lead up to the Comet Community Awards in May next year.

We’re looking for your nominations for the monthly award, so if you know someone who plays their part in the community and would like to win £100 then email communityhero@thecomet.net.
