HUSBAND and wife actors Timothy West and Prunella Scales had a talent to amuse in Comet country last week.

They were at the Priory in Little Wymondley to perform a two-hander entitled The Battle of the Sexes - an exchange of literary blows.

Literary credits ranged from Oscar Wilde to Shakespeare and it followed the path of a relationship from courtship through to marriage.

All 160 tickets for the black tie event with a champagne reception sold out within days.

It not only provided great entertainment for the guests but also raised £8,000 for the NSPCC.

Sally Phipps, Herts community appeals manager for the children's charity, said: "With around 85 per cent of the NSPCC's funding coming from members of the public, the value of support from Timothy, Prunella and the local community is clear and greatly appreciated

"We were also supported in the organisation of this event by local Childline supporters and it marks the coming together of our two organisations to create an even stronger voice for children."

Anyone wishing to support the NSPCC locally can contact the east region appeals team on 01908 568 336.
