Independent Potton councillor Adam Zerny has demanded action from Central Bedfordshire Council regarding pollution levels in Sandy.
A World Health Organization report earlier this month revealed a site near the A1 exceeded the recommended 10 micrograms per cubic metre at a level of 12.
Mr Zerny obtained fine patricle readings from Central Bedfordshire Council that show pollution levels have not improved since initial measurements between 2013 and 2015, while the annual average level of 12 is actually much higher for long periods.
In a statement made to the Comet earlier this month, the council acknowledged the town’s pollution problem – but Mr Zerny is urging them to make changes.
“It may not show the council in a good light to acknowledge the problem publicly – but with many houses and even schools within a short distance of the A1, I believe CBC needs to take action and to do so now,” he said.
