The A1’s northbound carriageway is still closed north of Baldock Services after one lorry rear-ended a second near Biggleswade – with traffic stationary all the way back to Junction 8 for Stevenage.
The A1 northbound is closed from Junction 10 for Baldock Services to the Sainsbury’s roundabout west of Biggleswade.
A man thought by paramedics to be in his 40s was trapped following the crash near Langford shortly before midday, but was freed and taken to Bedford Hospital with serious head and leg injuries.
Emergency crews including an East Anglian Air Ambulance were called to the scene, but the patient was ultimately transported by road ambulance.
