There are long delays on the A1(M) near Stevenage and Letchworth this morning after a crash involving a motorbike.

The crash, on the southbound carriageway at about 6.40am, has caused a lane closure near Junction 8 for Stevenage.

It involved a Honda motorbike and a Ford Transit van.

There are delays of up to half an hour on the southbound stretch as a result, with the neighbouring A602 from Hitchin and B197 through Graveley also affected.

A police spokeswoman said: “Officers are currently at the scene to assist with vehicle recovery but the carriageway is not blocked.”

Paramedics treated the motorcyclist, a man described as in his 30s, at the scene before taking him to Stevenage’s Lister Hospital for further care.
