DOZENS of children attended the nature day at the RSPB headquarters at Sandy on Saturday.

They made fat cakes, and packed the cakes into wooden feeders that had been made by volunteers on the nature reserve with the timber from woodland management work at Sandy Heath Quarry.

The bird-ringing demonstration was a popular attraction. "It is not often that we get to see wild birds being handled by experienced scientists," said Neil Renwick the RSPB heathland awareness officer.
