A busy road in Hitchin will be closed for three weeks from tomorrow in order to replace an extensive system of water mains which help supply people in the town.
Fishponds Road will be closed until September 4 as the £800,000 project is carried out.
A spokesman for Affinity Water said: “We’re carrying out work to replace 7.7km of water mains that supply water each day to customers in Hitchin. This work represents an investment of £800,000.
“Some of the existing water mains were laid more than 50 years ago, but have now reached the end of their useful lives. The work in Fishponds Road is a part of the wider scheme, and will start from Saturday to be complete by September 4.
“A road closure with diversions will be in place to ensure the safety of commuters and our contractors working to replace the main. Thanks to our customers for their patience.”
