An 80-year-old woman fought off a would-be mugger who tried to steal her shopping bag in Letchworth over the weekend.
Police have today appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident – which happened at the junction of Station Way and The Meads at 8.20pm on Saturday – to get in touch.
The woman was approached by the offender, a man, who attempted to pull her shopping bag from her. She refused to let go of the bag and shouted at the would-be robber.
He then made off in the direction of the train station. Nothing was taken, and the woman was not injured.
