CONSULTING businesses and residents in Letchworth GC on plans to regenerate the town centre cost £29,000.

Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation spent the money on, among other things, placing newspaper adverts, delivering leaflets to every household and business and setting up a dedicated website.

Stuart Kenny, director general of the Foundation, said it was "money well spent" to ensure everyone who wanted to had the opportunity to comment on the subject.

He added: "The proposed regeneration will, subject to obtaining the necessary consents from North Herts District Council, affect markedly the heart of the town for many years to come and the public's input was crucial before the next steps were considered.

"Some of the suggestions from the public are now being incorporated into our proposals, before planning applications are submitted to the district council."

The Foundation received 438 replies to the consultation.
