A business support organisation in Stevenage is marking 43 years of helping entrepreneurs succeed.

Wenta, a not-for-profit social enterprise, has supported more than 110,000 businesses since it was founded in 1983.

The organisation helps start-ups, small businesses, and growing enterprises across Hertfordshire, north London, and beyond by offering free advice, coaching, workshops, and access to affordable office space.

Peter Abel, chief executive of Wenta, said: "Wenta has built an outstanding reputation over more than 42 years for supporting entrepreneurs, start-ups, and small businesses, and for creating genuine economic and social impact in the communities it serves.

"What particularly resonates with me is Wenta's mission to make it easier and greener for everyone to start and run a successful business.

"Small businesses are an instrumental part of our economy, and I am passionate about ensuring they have access to the support, skills, workspaces, and opportunities they need to thrive.

"I look forward to working alongside our talented team, partners, and stakeholders to build on Wenta's strong foundations and help even more businesses to achieve their ambitions."

Mr Abel, who joined as CEO earlier this summer, succeeds Ed Jordan, who led the organisation for nine and a half years.

Under Mr Jordan’s leadership, Wenta supported entrepreneurs through the challenges of the pandemic and cemented its position as a trusted business support provider.

Looking ahead, Wenta plans to expand its digital offering with Wenta TV and the Air Your Business podcast.

It will also continue delivering its Get Enterprising programme in partnership with Hertfordshire Futures.

The organisation recently secured a contract to manage The Business & Technology Centre and Chells Industrial Units in Stevenage until 2030, supporting hundreds of businesses with workspace and community support.

Wenta is also preparing to break ground on DomeWorks, a new innovation hub in north Watford near the Dome Roundabout.

Despite its growth and evolution, the organisation remains rooted in its original mission.

Wenta believes that no one should have to build a business alone—a principle it has stood by since its founding 43 years ago.
