A woman in her 90s has been taken to hospital after she was "knocked down" by a council van in Stevenage.

It's reported the woman was hit by a Stevenage Borough Council vehicle near Tesco Express on the High Street.

The East of England Ambulance Service confirmed paramedics were called to reports of a pedestrian injured in a crash.

A spokesperson said: "One patient was transported to Lister Hospital for further assessment and care."

Hertfordshire Police said officers were called at 2.10pm on Thursday (July 16) after reports of a road traffic collision believed to be low speed.

A Stevenage Borough Council spokesperson said: "We are aware one of our vehicles was involved in an incident and the police are looking into it."
