Schools in Stevenage and North Herts are set to close early this week due to forecast high temperatures.
Larwood School in Stevenage and Brandles School in Baldock, both schools for children with special educational needs, have announced closing at midday every day for the rest of this week.
Larwood School's headteacher, Bianca Osobu, said: "The wellbeing, comfort and regulation of our pupils is our primary consideration.
"Many of our pupils have additional sensory needs and can find extreme temperatures particularly challenging.
"We know that excessive heat can increase discomfort, sensory overload and anxiety, which in turn can lead to dysregulation and make it more difficult for pupils to engage positively and safely in the school day."
She explained that the decision was made after a risk assessment of the conditions and the facilities available on site.
However, the school will remain open for children who are unable to be collected early.
Ms Osobu said: "We have deliberately chosen not to close the school completely.
"Pupils will continue to attend during the morning, receive their lunch, which will be served earlier than usual, and access the support and structure that school provides."
