Two people have been arrested after armed police were called to a knife-point robbery in Stevenage last night (April 9).

Police were called just before 10.45pm to reports of a robbery in York Road. A man was assaulted by three males who then stole money and fled the scene.

The suspects were believed to be in possession of a knife, with armed officers and a police helicopter called to the scene.

A 52-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy have been arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of an offensive weapon. They remain in police custody at this time.

Sergeant Andrew Kerr from the Stevenage Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "I appreciate this incident will be concerning to residents and we will be conducting additional patrols in the area today.

"We currently have two people in custody and are progressing enquiries.

"If anyone has information and is yet to speak to police, please don’t hesitate to contact us."
