Letchworth Hall Hotel has officially reopened as voco Letchworth Hall Hotel by IHG after a remarkable renovation.
Set within eight acres of picturesque grounds on the outskirts of Letchworth, the world's first Garden City, the much-loved former manor house built by William Lytton in 1620 has undergone a complete transformation.
Geraldine Mullins, voco Letchworth Hall's director of commercial, is delighted with the outcome of the refurbishment. "We have invested just under four million pounds to beautifully renovate the entirety of our premises, which has elevated us to the premium brand 'voco by IHG' — voco, Latin for ‘to invite or to call together’ — which is a massive accolade," she explains. "The voco badge guarantees guests that we provide a distinctive, charming and unstuffy hotel experience."
"The result of the refurbishment is extremely tasteful; the building has retained all the period features and charm of the original manor house, including the splendid Jacobean fireplaces, but everything has been thoughtfully updated."
Every bedroom in the hotel has been revolutionised; bright, modern and spacious designs with updated layouts and entirely new furnishings. You can book a wide variety of contemporary and comfortable rooms which have, at minimum, a double bed: cosy, standard and premium, and one or two bed suites — all rooms are ensuite, and facilities include a safe, tea and coffee making facilities, a 50 inch television, ironing provisions and complimentary Wi-Fi throughout.
As voco is an eco brand, awarded hotels have a focus on sustainability; as well as being part of IHG's ‘journey to tomorrow’, Letchworth Hall holds a Green Key certification. This translates to eco design choices throughout the renovation, such as exquisitely comfortable bedding packs made from recycled materials, crafted so that both your body and your mind can rest in peace.
But the biggest changes to voco Letchworth Hall have taken place within the original manor house, where you will find public areas that have been creatively redesigned to create a lighter, more welcoming atmosphere.
The hotel's bar has been relocated to the Great Hall, creating a vibrant social and entertainment space where guests and local residents can meet casually or hold informal gatherings. "You can have meetings, afternoon tea or a quick coffee and no one looks out of place," Geraldine said.
"The area our bar previously occupied has been converted into a stylish lounge overlooking the gardens ideal for working or relaxing in, depending on the time of day." Not a single part of the manor house has been forgotten about in the refurbishment, with every nook cleverly utilised to optimise the guest experience.
At the heart of the hotel is Lyttons, the beautifully refitted on-site restaurant. Attentively redesigned into three sections, the space now offers both intimate and open seating, all with fabulous views over the gardens.
"Lyttons is now even more welcoming, with lots of natural light and a relaxed yet elegant atmosphere," says Geraldine. "Whether you want a romantic date, casual lunch or formal get together, you'll find that our restaurant is the perfect place to enjoy good food and warm, considerate hospitality.”
The restaurant's make-over doesn't stop at the decor; the entire dining experience has been lovingly updated. "Tom, our head chef, was given free rein to put his mark on Lyttons," Geraldine shares.
His new menu showcases a blend of classic and contemporary dishes: fresh favourites, seasonal specials and a standout signature of Honey and Paprika Seared Tuna Loin — all of which are prepared with fresh, seasonal ingredients. Sunday roasts remain a highlight and breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and afternoon tea are served daily.
The hotel has also launched a selection of seasonal dining packages: Valentines guests can enjoy Tom's two special steak sharing dishes alongside the à la carte menu, Mother's Day brings celebratory lunches and indulgent afternoon teas, and Easter features all the traditional Sunday lunch options.
Adding to the culinary experience, the restaurant’s meat is supplied by a local Hertfordshire butcher and overnight guests are treated to freshly baked shortbread squirrels as a welcome gift.
For leisure and wellbeing, overnight guests can enjoy the attached Nuffield Health gym and pool, golfers have the idyllic Letchworth Golf Club next door, and the wider area offers plenty to explore; from family days at Standalone Farm to local museums, galleries, and the famous Hitchin Lavender attraction, you won't be short of things to do.
voco Letchworth Hall borders both Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire, with London Kings Cross St. Pancras just 30 minutes away. This prime location allows guests to easily explore nearby towns such as Cambridge, Hitchin, and St. Albans. Additionally, the hotel's proximity to London Luton Airport makes it a convenient starting point for travellers before embarking on their flights.
Continuing to serve as a versatile events venue, the hotel professionally handles weddings, dinner dances, christenings, wakes and large formal lunches. “We have a fabulous selection of wedding packages that suit celebrations of all sizes and budgets,” Geraldine notes, "From small intimate receptions, to function rooms that hold hundreds."
All of their beautifully re-decorated rooms are available to hire, alongside a dedicated banqueting kitchen that makes dry hire possible. voco Letchworth Hall also welcomes wedding parties with celebrations held at other local venues, to stay in their idyllic accommodation.
Corporate guests are equally well catered for, the hotel being available for use as a remote working space. Specialised meeting room hire — the largest suite seating up to 220 people — is available on a room hire or delegate package, whether needed for just a few hours or multiple days.
For individual remote workers seeking a change in environment, the new lounge offers a relaxed space in which to 'work from home'. Geraldine notes this requires no booking and has no cost, happily telling us: "People are more than welcome to just walk in and work from our lounge, as long as they purchase coffee from us, we're happy to have them."
Everything in the space has been carefully thought through, all the way down to built-in charging points at every seat, so you don’t need to worry about your laptop dying in the middle of a meeting.
With its large free car park, elegant surroundings and completely renewed interior, voco Letchworth Hall Hotel offers everything guests and local visitors could need, whether for dining, leisure, work or celebration. Geraldine sums it up simply: "Basically, we do everything. And all of it has just been refurbished to an incredibly high standard."
So, now is the perfect time to discover voco Letchworth Hall Hotel, which looks forward to welcoming visitors, old and new, to enjoy its luxurious new era.
