North Herts Museum is inviting visitors on a trip back to the 1980s with a nostalgic new exhibition.

I Grew Up 80s runs at the Hitchin museum until March 15, 2026, and promises a lively look at childhood in 1980s Britain with more than 200 objects and interactive displays.

Cllr Tamsin Thomas, executive member for enterprise at North Herts Council, said: "The ‘I Grew Up 80s’ exhibition offers a compelling journey into the past, and is guaranteed to evoke a sense of nostalgia and delight.

"It’s a brilliant, fun and free day out that really shows how much things have changed.

"We can’t wait for visitors of all ages to immerse themselves in the defining decade of the 80s."

The exhibition includes familiar favourites like Betamax tapes, BMX bikes, Transformers toys, and a playable Donkey Kong arcade machine.

Neon signs, 80s fashion on mannequins, and one hour of archival TV footage round out the immersive experience.

The exhibition is from collector and cultural commentator Matt Fox of spacefund.co.uk.

North Herts Museum, on Brand Street in Hitchin, is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10.30am to 4.30pm, and Sundays from 11am to 3pm.

Entry is free, and the museum also has a café.
