A hefty reward is being offered to anyone with information on a spate of attempted cash machine break-ins in Herts, Cambs and Beds – including Royston and Sandy.

Crimestoppers and the Post Office are offering up to £25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the six ATM attacks – the first of which was in November last year, with the most recent on Wednesday.

The attacks have seen thieves smash their way into Post Office branches – including those within newsagents – either through the front window or by by forcing the front door, with the burglars then burning their way through the cash machine’s exterior within the branch.

The two early-morning Royston incidents took place at McColl’s newsagent in Queens Road on November 11 and December 13 – the thieves left empty-handed, with a black Audi was used to flee the scene.

A black Audi was also used to get away from the Sandy incident, at the Post Office in Market Square on January 2.

Annabelle Goodenough from Crimestoppers said: “Post Office branches are a community facility, and to see these incidents occur across the region is a big concern.

“I’d appeal to anyone with information about those responsible for these attacks, to contact Crimestoppers anonymously, safe in the knowledge your identity will never be revealed because we don’t ask any of your personal details.”

Post Office security operations manager Amy Quirk added: “The safety and security of our people and customers is paramount and we are committed to helping put a stop to these incidents.”

The reward will be offered for information passed through Crimestoppers that leads to a conviction – information passed directly to police will not qualify.

Anyone with information can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or through their anonymous online form at crimestoppers-uk.org.
