All three emergency services were called to a three-car pile-up on the A1(M) southbound on Saturday morning.
The incident between junction 7 at Stevenage and junction 6 at Welwyn happened at around 10.20am.
Police officers, firefighters and paramedics attended the scene, and the road was closed.
One person was taken to Lister Hospital in Stevenage for assessment and treatment.
Area commander Wayne Gibbons, from Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "Thankfully, no one was trapped and crews from our Stevenage and Welwyn Garden City stations supported colleagues from the ambulance service to assess people at the scene.
"Our crews ensured that the road was free from oil and debris so that other drivers could continue on their journeys safely."
