Police officers were carrying out speed checks in North Herts on Sunday, as part of Hertfordshire Constabulary's "commitment to reducing 'Fatal 5' accidents".

The exercise led to four drivers being reported for speeding - one was clocked at 68mph in a 40mph zone - and five others being given a verbal warning.

Also on Sunday, one driver was reported for speeding after travelling at 62mph on Gunnels Wood Road in Stevenage, which is a 40mph zone.

The 'Fatal 5' road safety campaign seeks to reduce careless driving, drink and drug driving, not wearing a seatbelt, excessive speed and distracted driving, including mobile phone use.

The minimum penalty for speeding is generally a £100 fine and three penalty points on your licence.

If it's a first offence and you don't have penalty points on your licence, you could be offered a speed awareness course instead of points.
