A planning application has been submitted to build a four-bedroom home in Hitchin's Sun Street.

The plans, submitted to North Herts Council, propose to build the dwelling in the car park at the rear of 9 Sun Street, which is currently occupied by Plan Burrito and the Bella Vita Hotel.

"The site is an under-used car park for the hotel, which previously had planning consent for four small houses," the planning application states.

"There are currently 35 car parking spaces. The is a good sized site, in a sustainable location, and with an opportunity to extend the public footpath.

"The basic elements of the proposed design include a new detached house with car parking and gardens at front and rear, retention of eight car parking spaces for hotel, and the extension of public footpath across width of site.

"The proposed house will be at the rear of the site if viewed from Sun Street, or the front of the site if viewed from Bridge Court."

The applicant was also keen to state that the Bella Vita Hotel will "remain", and that extending the public footpath through the site would "provide a future pedestrian link from east to west".
