North Hertfordshire College has launched a new programme revolving around electric vehicles.

The ElectrAssure Training Academy, a venture in partnership with electric vehicle charge point installation company ElectrAssure, was unveiled on April 16 at the college's Engineering and Construction Campus.

Senior project manager at National Grid, Gavin Posnett, and chairperson of the Stevenage Development Board, Adrian Hawkins OBE, were among the dignitaries at the launch.

The academy is set to support the Level 3 Award programme in the Design and Installation of Domestic and Small Commercial Electric Vehicle Charging Installations.

Mr Posnett said: "I have really fond memories of my time as an apprentice, so I'm delighted to see the return of the modern apprenticeship.

"I believe this partnership between ElectrAssure and North Hertfordshire College will equip the next generation of electrical engineers with the skills they need to shape a greener future for transportation."

The course will enhance already qualified electricians and provide prospective learners and apprentices access to modules concerning green and sustainable technologies, thereby broadening their competencies, knowledge, and job prospects.

The ElectrAssure Training Academy's sole purpose is to prime students for the ever-changing industry requirements that come with the rise in popularity of green and sustainable technology.

Principal and CEO of North Hertfordshire College, Kit Davies, said: "This is a great example of how North Hertfordshire College is working closely with employers and industry specialists to identify and meet the skills gaps locally, preparing learners with the skills required both now and in the future."

The operations director of ElectrAssure, Alun Davies, was also upbeat.

He said: "We are really pleased to be working with the College on this training academy to provide skills delivery identified and required within the industry.

"The creation of the ElectrAssure Training Academy enables electricians to access this training locally and supports the development of sustainable technologies and skills required to deliver and support the growing requirement for electrical vehicle charge points locally, regionally, and nationally."

The construction of the ElectrAssure Training Academy demonstrates North Hertfordshire College and ElectrAssure’s dedication to mould a greener, sustainable engineering and construction workforce for future skills needs.
