Two-times Olympic taekwondo medallist Lutalo Muhammad will headline a free health and wellbeing day in Stevenage on Saturday.

From 10am to 2pm at Stevenage Arts and Leisure Centre, people will have the chance to take part in physical activity taster sessions and free health tests, as well as check out a variety of stalls.

The annual event, held by Everyone Active on behalf of Stevenage Borough Council, aims to bring the community together to explore avenues for enhancing both physical and mental health.

Free activities will include dance and fitness classes, pickleball, short mat bowls, boxing, badminton and dodgeball.

Lutalo, who won silver at the Rio 2016 Olympics and bronze at London 2012, will be leading a masterclass in the sports hall, showcasing his taekwondo skills and giving children the opportunity to try their hand at the sport under his guidance.

Lutalo will also host a short presentation, sharing insights into his journey to the top of his discipline.

Juanita Prescott, Everyone Active's activity and wellbeing manager, said: "It’s a huge privilege to welcome Lutalo Muhammad to Stevenage Arts and Leisure Centre, whose achievements are an inspiration to us all.

"We are equally excited to welcome lots of members of our community to the event, which aims to offer lots of insights into health and wellbeing initiatives in our area.

"We are constantly working to ensure every member of our wonderful community is supported through various classes and programmes, and we hope this free event will bring us one step closer to our goal."

A Stevenage Borough Council spokesperson said: "Health Action Day is aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of the community, with a number of free activities on offer.

"It’s a great opportunity for the whole family to find out more ways that they can become a bit healthier and more active."

Lutalo’s taekwondo taster sessions will take place between noon and 1pm. Places should be booked in advance to avoid disappointment.
