Construction has begun a development of 57 new and affordable homes in Letchworth.

The development will see Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation’s former offices at Foundation House in Icknield Way revitalised into one and two-bedroom apartments, designed in keeping with the Garden City's architectural heritage.

Homes will be 100 per cent affordable, with 31 apartments available for shared ownership and 26 allocated for social rent.

The development will feature five apartment buildings, up to four storeys in height, complete with an attractive green space for residents.

The project is a collaboration between First Garden Cities Homes and award-winning housebuilder The Hill Group, with additional funding support from Homes England and North Herts Council.

"First Garden Cities Homes and The Hill Group have a shared commitment to providing good-quality affordable housing for local communities," said John Welch, chief executive at First Garden Cities Homes.
