A man in his 50s has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries following a crash on the A602 in Stevenage.

Prior to 9.45am this morning (Wednesday, March 20) the individual from Muswell Hill crashed his grey Kia Picanto into a tree, between Bragbury Lane and Raffin Green Lane.

The roundabout on Broadwater Crescent is currently blocked, and motorists have been urged to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Constabulary said: "Police were called at around 9.45 this morning (Wednesday, March 20) to report a singular road traffic collision on Hitchin Road in Stevenage involving a Grey Kia Picanto which had gone into a tree.

"A man from Muswell Hill has been taken to hospital with serious injuries which are being deemed life threatening.

"The roundabout on Broadwater Crescent is currently blocked and motorists are urged to please avoid the area and seek an alternative route.

"If you have any information which may assist, please contact police, quoting ISR 194 of 20 March."
