Two golfers have swapped their clubs for bicycles and ridden across the mountains of Colombia to raise money for the Douglas Drive Senior Citizens' Association in Stevenage.

Brendan Wren and Paul Massie are both members of Knebworth Golf Club, which has the association - a day centre for older people - as its charity of the year.

This month, the pair have cycled from Medellin to Bogota - riding nearly 400 miles and climbing more then 11,900 metres over nine days.

Their route included the Alto de Letras - said to be the longest road climb in the world - where they reached the altitude of 3,650 metres above sea level.

So far, Paul and Brendan have raised almost £2,500.

Mark Bierton, general manager of Knebworth Golf Club, said: "Knebworth Golf Club has a proud history of supporting the community.

"Fundraising for the causes our members care about is very important to us, which is why we were so happy to get behind Brendan and Paul in their fantastic venture."
