North Herts and Stevenage Community Transport is holding an open morning for anyone interested in becoming a volunteer driver.

A team of approximately 68 volunteers offer their vehicles and free time to provide transportation for passengers, helping them attend medical appointments and social events.

They carry out more than 400 bookings each month, but more volunteers are needed to meet increasing demand.

One service user commented: "I value community transport very highly. Without it I would struggle to maintain my eye health and get to other hospital appointments."

Mileage for volunteer drivers is covered.

Community transport scheme manager Jon Brown, who next year will have been with the charity for 10 years, said: "The growth of service users only highlights how important the service is.

"We are in need of more support and I would love to hear from anyone who enjoys driving and has a bit of time to give each week.
