Video footage of an assault on a man that left him permanently blind in one eye has been released by police as his attacker, from Watford, is jailed for almost seven years.

Tauream Smith-Sharp, 28, of Muirfield Road, Watford, attacked his victim on October 14, 2021 at restaurant Ivy Asia in New Change Passage in the City of London.

At around 11.40pm, the victim was making his way towards toward the cloakroom when he was set upon by Smith-Sharp.

He smashed a glass into the victim’s face, wounding his right eye, and then threw chairs at him.

He was sentenced to six years and nine months in prison at Inner London Crown Court on Friday, after being found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent and affray on January 26.

Detective Constable Ufuk Ekbic, at the City of London Police, said: “This was an unprovoked and violent attack, which took place in a matter of minutes, resulting in the victim receiving a life-changing injury.

“Thanks to the hard work of everyone involved, we were able to secure this conviction and put a dangerous individual behind bars.

“We will act quickly and use all available resources when a violent act is committed to bring assailants to justice.”

Using CCTV footage and mobile phone evidence, officers were able to identify and place Smith-Sharp at the scene of the incident and secure this conviction.
