A decision could be made later today (Thursday, March 7) on whether a major housing development in North Herts can go ahead.

Amended plans were put forward back in January for a nine home development in Ickleford.

Proposals for the site, next to Arnold's Farm in Upper Green near the Recreation Ground, have been in progress for eight years, having first been submitted in 2015.

During that time, the number of homes proposed has been reduced from 18 to nine.

The site was previously in the Green Belt, but was removed when the North Herts Local Plan 2011-31 was approved.

Now, a decision is set to be made on whether to grant planning permission for the development.

North Herts Council's planning control committee meet tonight, with the Arnold's Farm development on the agenda.

Committee members have been handed a report by the relevant planning officer, who recommends that they grant planning permission subject to 18 conditions being met.

The plans have been "strongly objected" to by Ickleford Parish Council, who argue that the proposed development is too large and warn of potentially dangerous traffic conditions.

Also up for discussion at tonight's meeting will be a proposed development of six homes on land east of Ashmill Poultry Farm in Barkway.

Plans to consider a development of 15 homes on land between 134 and 148 High Street in Kimpton were due to be on the agenda, but have been shelved for now to allow further discussion between relevant parties on a Section 106 agreement.

Section 106 agreements provide legally binding obligations on developers to contribute to the cost of providing new infrastructure in the local area.
