Plans to refurbish and expand a skate park in Hitchin have been affected by "unforeseen" delays, North Herts Council has confirmed, but the local authority says its "commitment to delivering a top-notch facility remains unwavering."

In May last year, people were encouraged to have their say on plans to transform the skate park at King George V Recreation Ground in Old Hale Way.

Today, North Herts Council has said there have been "some unforeseen delays" and that the procurement process will start all over again, in order "to ensure transparency, integrity and adherence to all regulations."

A spokesperson for the council said: "We would like to reassure our community regarding the eagerly anticipated skate park project.

"Despite some unforeseen delays, we can confirm that the skate park project is still very much in progress.

"To ensure transparency, integrity, and adherence to all regulations, we have decided to restart the procurement process. This is being done to guarantee that every aspect of the project is handled meticulously, and in accordance with the highest standards.

"We understand the anticipation and excitement surrounding the skate park and want to assure you that our commitment to delivering a top-notch facility remains unwavering.

"Back in January, users of the skate park fed back on the initial set of designs, which helped shape the park. There will be further opportunities to feed back on the next set of designs from potential contractors."
