In memory of his dad, Hitchin teenager Jamie Timms and his friends have completed a 125km relay race in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Jamie's dad, John, died from cancer three years ago, when Jamie was just 13 years old.

Last week, Jamie and his friends - pupils at Hitchin Boys' School - challenged themselves to run 125km around the school field in under 10 hours, in a relay format, with the aim of raising £5,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Modern foreign language teacher George Rule was voted as the member of staff that students most wanted to see run 1km of the course at lunchtime, while dressed as a dinosaur!

The group smashed their target - completing the challenge in just under nine hours and raising more than £6,000 for the charity.

Jamie said: "I wanted to make my dad proud by raising money for Cancer Research UK - the charity that supported him both through his journey and at work, as he was a cancer researcher."
