A man has been released on bail after gunshots were reportedly fired in two Stevenage streets.

Hertfordshire police had arrested the 31-year-old man from Stevenage on Monday, January 8, on suspicion of two counts of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life.

A spokesperson for the Constabulary confirmed that the suspect has now "been released on bail pending further enquiries".

He was arrested following two gun-related incidents in Stevenage - the first occurred in Longcroft Road on Saturday, December 9, and the second in neighbouring Whitesmead Road on Monday, January 1.

A firearm was reportedly discharged in both incidents, neither of which saw anybody injured.

Detective Inspector Nicholas Rega, of the Stevenage Local Crime Unit, said earlier this week: "We appreciate incidents like this are alarming, but they are also unusual.

"We’ve been carrying out extensive enquiries since the incidents were reported to us on Tuesday, January 2, and I hope the news of this arrest is reassuring.

"A man is now in custody, and we will be continuing to work hard to establish the circumstances of the incidents.
