A new memorial 'tree' has been erected at Weston Road Cemetery in Stevenage.

The metal tree has sixteen branches, with a total of 240 heart-shaped leaves among them. The leaves can be engraved with the name, year of birth and year of death of a loved one.

Personalised leaves will cost £150 or more, and will be displayed on the tree for five years.

Cllr Simon Speller, portfolio holder for environment and climate change at Stevenage Borough Council, said: “The tree is a beautiful addition to Weston Road Cemetery, providing a unique and dignified way of memorialising loved ones.

“We know that Christmas can be a difficult time for many, particularly if you have recently lost a loved one, and the memorial tree will give people the opportunity for a moment of quiet reflection.”
