A HOSPITAL trust has confirmed that 24 medical secretary posts will go when an outsourced letter typing company is employed.
East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust has said it hopes that all the job losses will be covered by people taking voluntary redundancy rather than making it compulsory.
Medical secretaries are being told the news this week and there will be a 30-day consultation on these plans starting on July 26.
There are 141 medical secretary posts across the Trust which includes Lister Hospital, QEII and Hertford County.
A Trust spokesman said the number of medical secretaries taking voluntary redundancy could be more than 24 because of part-time workers.
The new outsourced letter typing service will start in autumn after one of the three companies they are trialling is chosen.
The Trust said the outsourcing will save it £1m.
A medical secretary said: "We feel undervalued because they are going to cut some of our jobs when we have enough to do when we are at full strength.
