New Hitchin restaurant Craft & Cleaver is set to open soon, after more was revealed about the highly-anticipated barbecue spot.

A planning application for the site was approved back in August, and work on the building has been taking place over the past few months.

Now, Craft & Cleaver have revealed, via their Instagram page, that the restaurant will be opening in December, although an exact date has not been confirmed.

"We’ve been looking for just the right Hitchin site for years, and when we saw this place wasn’t reopening after Covid, we were waiting quietly for it to come up for lease. It’s perfect," the post read.

"We’re super psyched to open in a town with such a great food and drink scene, and alongside some of the best in the business.

"We hope we can bring something a little bit different to this awesome town, complement our friends and neighbours well and have a load of fun along the way."

Craft & Cleaver is set to take over the Grade II-listed building that was formerly home to Prezzo. The unit has stood empty since 2021 when the chain closed the restaurant.

The new restaurant has also applied to North Hertfordshire Council for a premises licence to serve alcohol every day from 11am to 11.30pm, except on Friday and Saturday, with the hours.

Craft and Cleaver, which currently has a site in St Albans and is a popular spot in the city, offers an exciting menu for meat lovers, with a range of burgers, barbecues and skillets on offer, as well as small plates and a brunch menu.
