A woman in her fifties died after a crash between Stevenage and Hitchin yesterday (Sunday, November 12).

She was driving a grey Toyota Corolla when the three-vehicle collision occurred on the A602 at around 6.50pm. A spokesperson for Herts police said that the woman died at the scene.

A 24-year-old man from London, who was driving a black BMW 316i that was involved in the collision, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and of failing to provide a sample.

The third vehicle involved was a silver Hyundai IX35.

Herts police attended the incident, as did Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, who sent fire appliances from Hitchin and Stevenage, and the Rescue Support Unit from St Albans.

Two ambulances and an ambulance officer vehicle from the East of England Ambulance Service also rushed to the scene - as well as the East Anglian Air Ambulance - with one woman taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital for further treatment and care.

Herts police are investigating the incident, and have appealed for information, witnesses and footage.

Detective Constable Felicity Moody, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the lady’s loved ones at this very difficult time.

“We are working to establish how the collision occurred and we want to hear from anyone who can help.

“If you saw what happened, or the events leading up to the collision, please get in touch.

“If you were driving in the area and have a dash cam, please check your footage and make contact if you have video that could help.
