Letchworth residents are being invited to have their say on proposals to redevelop houses on Campfield Way, Highover Road and Icknield Way.

settle, a housing association, is planning to knock down the 'Hawksley bungalows' that have existed on the Campfield Way and Highover Road since the late 1940s, and replace them with new properties. Properties on Icknield Way between 49A and 75B (odd numbers only), built in the early 1950s, may also be affected by the plans.

The housing association is seeking to gather feedback from residents before progressing with a planning application to North Herts Council.

Proposals for the new development include 157 new homes with a variety of one and two-bedroom apartments, terraced, semi-detached and detached houses. All the homes will be "affordable" according to the government definition of the term.

The scheme will also provide fully accessible flats, houses, and bungalows in direct response to need. Every property will have access to a private outdoor area, either through a private garden or balcony, together with parking.

The 'Hawksley bungalows' were prefabs, designed to be easy-to-build from leftover war materials, and were expected to last for between ten and 60 years - but have now been occupied for around 70 years.

Fiona Coulson, executive director of development at settle, said: “This is our fifth public consultation, along with one-to-one meetings with individual residents and more than 20 meetings with the Resident Steering Group.

“We’ve listened to feedback we received and worked with our architects to ensure the new homes are designed to reflect the needs and interests of residents, and in line with the Garden City principles.

"It’s important that we continue to hear residents’ views and from other members of the public on the updated proposals so that we can move forwards with the planning application and delivering the investment we know will be so important in this area."

The survey is open until 11.59pm on Sunday, November 26 and can be viewed here: https://connect.settlegroup.org.uk/campfield_highover_icknield
