Firefighters from Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service raced to reports of an oven fire at Harrow Court in Stevenage over the weekend.

Residents reported seeing as many as eight fire engines at the 17-storey block of flats in Silam Road.

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed to the Comet that they were called at 5.41pm on Saturday, October 21, to reports of an oven fire in a fifth floor flat.

The spokesperson confirmed that "a number of fire engines" had been sent "as a precaution" due to the fire being in a high-rise building.

Fortunately, by the time firefighters arrived at the property, the fire was already out. Crews were able to use ventilation fans to clear smoke from the affected flat before leaving.

In 2005, Harrow Court was the scene of the devastating fire that tragically killed two firefighters, Jeff Wornham and Michael Miller, and a resident, Natalie Close.
