An eyewitness has relived the moment she saw a child "thrown in the air" after being hit by a car in Letchworth this afternoon.

The incident took place at around 1.45pm this afternoon (Friday, September 15) in Ordelmere, with the eyewitness, who has asked to remain anonymous, seeing the crash as she looked out of her bedroom window.

"I was looking out the window, and I saw a little boy," she recalled.

"A car hit him and he was thrown up in the air as he was hit, which was really shocking to see."

Reacting quickly, she called the emergency services and rushed out to the child, continuing: "I ran downstairs, called the 999 and went out to him immediately.

"His grandad ran out, picked him and took him in the house. There were about six police cars that turned up, a paramedic, an ambulance and the air ambulance too."

Herts police confirmed the child was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
