Hertfordshire police are warning people not to fall for a scam that fraudsters are currently operating, after several residents have reported being conned by it.

"Several Herts residents have reported not receiving goods they have ordered via a link on Facebook to the Wilkinson's website," a spokesperson for Herts police said.

"Avoid using links in emails or social media posts and go direct to websites to be sure they are genuine."

Homeware chain Wilko announced last month that it has officially entered administration, putting 12,000 jobs at risk.

The company has stores in Stevenage, St Albans, Watford, Hemel Hempstead, Hitchin and Letchworth.

It has confirmed there are "no immediate plans" to close the Hertfordshire stores.

"We’ve no choice but to take the difficult decision to enter into administration," added Wilko CEO Mark Jackson.
