Consultation on proposed parking restrictions in Hitchin has begun, in part to stop "inappropriate parking" during the school run.

Hertfordshire County Council wants to introduce additional parking restrictions in Whitehill Road, Passingham Avenue, Offley Road and Harrison Close.

Painting double yellow lines on Whitehill Road, between the junctions of Broadmead and Whitehill Close, "is a safety priority to maintain the safe flow of traffic along Whitehill Road, which is often used as parking by those attending the adjacent school", the council explained, adding that the purpose is "to remove inappropriate parking and improve sight lines".

The council also wants to paint double yellow lines at the junction of Passingham Avenue and Whitehill Road to "maintain the safe and free flow of traffic in this area", and double yellow lines on Offley Road, between Moormead Close and Wratten Road West, "to remove inappropriate parking and improve congestion problems".

Finally, double yellow lines at the junction of Harrison Close and Walsworth Road are proposed to "protect visibility on the bends and maintain the safe flow of traffic along Harrison Close", the council said.
