A new Afro-Caribbean street food company is being launched in Norwich by a man who discovered a love for cooking while in prison.

Gochi Gochi has been founded by Tatenda Goredema who is originally from Essex.

He turned his life around after spending just over four years in prison for drug dealing and dangerous driving.

Mr Goredema said: "I was always cooking for myself when I was younger and I found I liked cooking for others.

"Then when I was in prison it was a good way to pass the time and I learnt to be resourceful as I went.

"I was cooking for a lot of guys who were African and Caribbean so I started putting those flavours together.

"It made me want to do it full-time when I got out and I decided to start Gochi Gochi."

The street food company will be serving four mains a week including jerk chicken, peppered steak, curry goat and oxtail as well as sides such as plantain, sweet potato fries and jollof rice.

One main and two sides will be £13 and two mains and three sides will be £20.

Gochi Gochi will also have 'loud pack' meals including the £35 jerk feast and the £35 seafood boil.

"There will be a basic menu and customers can pick and mix to make something just for them," Mr Goredema said.

"The flavours have been toned down a bit so that everyone can enjoy it and it's not too spicy."

And the 25-year-old already has plans for the future of the business.

He added: "I'd like to open a restaurant one day but I want to take my time.

"I'm hoping to do pop-up kitchens to start so that's what I'm looking for at the minute, somewhere to do a residency."

Gochi Gochi will launch in Norwich at some point in August.
