The huge fire at Baldock's industrial estate last week started "accidentally", the Comet can now confirm.

Firefighters from Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue Service raced to the scene in London Road on Tuesday, July 11, after being called at 6.15pm, and remained at the fire as of 10.30pm, having declared a "major incident".

15 fire fighting appliances, two aerial ladder platforms, a high volume pump, an aerial drone, a command and control unit, an incident support unit, and 11 flexi-duty officers attended the scene.

Local farmers also responded to the call, providing much-needed water which helped to put the blaze out.

More than 40 units were affected by the blaze, and thankfully there were no casualties.
