Businesses of all sizes providing varied offerings and unique experiences are what help make the East of England’s tourism sector so special, and the Large Hotel of the Year category at the East of England Tourism Awards 2023-2024 looks to specifically recognise larger establishments that are making their mark.

“The tourism industry is a staple in our region and these awards are a testament to the businesses that have persisted through difficult times and always put their customers at the forefront,” said Chris Barrett, partner at Ensors Chartered Accountants, the sponsor for this category. “Large hotels are sometimes taken for granted so we want to ensure that we celebrate those that go above and beyond for not only their customers, but their employees too.”

Regardless of a business’ size, Mr Barrett said that “success relies a lot on word of mouth and repeat business” and so hotels themselves and guests who have had a memorable experience should take the time to enter or nominate in the Tourism Awards, to ensure the best businesses receive the recognition they deserve.

“It would be a credit to any business to be shortlisted and recognised in the awards across the East of England,” added Mr Barrett. “The exposure and brand awareness is value in itself, but having the opportunity to celebrate your achievements and your team is an added bonus.”

When it comes to standing out in this category, Mr Barrett explained that “evident customer feedback” is key.

He also said: “We want to see a commitment to staff, sustainability and to the industry as a whole. Business value is within the people that work together, not just the numbers on the balance sheet.”

Excellence in all areas, from front of house to housekeeping services, should also be demonstrated, as Mr Barrett explained: “All of the components of a business must work in co-operation to drive forwards. Not one part in isolation can operate on a sustainable course – every aspect of the business matters.”
