A kids' futsal tournament in Stevenage has raised £1,000 for Stevenage Community Trust.

Eleven teams enjoyed some thrilling matches in the inaugural Stevenage Community Trust Cup, held on Saturday, July 1 for under 9s and under 11s.

Five under 9s teams took part in the morning tournament, with Hitchin Town, Bedwell Rangers and Stevenage Futsal all among the participants and Street Futsal Club running out as winners.

Then, in the afternoon, Stevenage Borough Juniors, Stevenage Futsal, Welwyn Pegasus, Letchworth Garden City Eagles and NL Hawks competed in the under 11s tournament, with Stoke Hammond taking home the title.

The tournaments were organised by Stevenage Futsal and James Donkin, founder of the club, told the Comet: "It was a cracking event that had loads of good feedback from players and parents alike, and really demonstrated that we can couple our passion for the sport with helping those in need in our community.

"We are already under way with planning for our next event, alongside our current kit sales that are raising funds for the Stevenage Community Trust.

"A special mention must go to Lincoln’s Tyres and Go Fiit Nutrition, who both sponsored the event, and to local business KC Sports who supplied the match balls and silverware for the winning teams."
