A new restaurant serving up "authentic" Punjabi dishes is coming to Henlow.

Apna Punjab opens at 5.30pm today (Thursday, July 6), inside the Bird in Hand pub in Lower Stondon.

It is run by three friends, Sukh, Vinny and Deesch, who are from Hitchin and Letchworth.

Sukh told the Comet that their aim is to bring "authentic Punjabi food" to an area where that is a rarity, with most similar restaurants based in London or the Midlands.

"It's something we've talked about for a long time, and it was during the Covid lockdown that we thought 'let's give this a go'.

"From there, everything started spiralling very quickly.

"We got a van, did street food in places like Hitchin and Bedfordshire, it was really full on.

"Then this opportunity came along with the pub which was our end game - we always wanted to do it but knew we had to build our way up to it.

"It's happened very quickly - we thought it would be years down the line so it's phenomenal to have it now.

"I'm still in disbelief that we're here! Now it's all about bringing out good, natural and authentic food."

Tables at Apna Punjab can be booked by calling 07733 758014.

The restaurant will be open from 5.30pm until 10pm Wednesday to Friday, and from midday until 10pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
