Services to and from London Kings Cross running through Hertfordshire will not run later this month due to engineering works.

All lines will be closed on Saturday, June 24, and Sunday, June 25, as work begins to install digital signalling between Hitchin and Welwyn Garden City.

As a result, no Great Northern or Thameslink trains will run between Potters Bar/Hertford North and St Neots/Royston on both days, with replacement buses provided between the following locations:

  • Potters Bar and Stevenage
  • Hitchin and St Neots
  • St Neots and Bedford
  • Hitchin and St Albans
  • Stevenage and Luton Airport Parkway
  • Hitchin and Royston
  • Hertford North and Stevenage

On Sunday, before 10.45am and after 11pm, no trains will run between London Kings Cross/Moorgate and Potters Bar/Hertford North.

Replacement buses will run between Finsbury Park and Potters Bar/Hertford North.

"We’ve made good early progress on the Northern City Line, and we’re now preparing the way towards Britain’s first digital signalling on an intercity mainline," said Ed Akers, Network Rail’s principal programme sponsor.

"Over the coming years this will enable more reliable journeys for the millions of passengers who use the East Coast route.

“We are sorry for the disruption that this work will cause passengers, and thank them for their patience. We advise them to plan ahead and check before they travel."

Jenny Saunders, Thameslink and Great Northern customer services director, added: "This work is essential to giving passengers better, even more sustainable services in the future.

"However, regrettably, there will be significant disruption on this June weekend so please do check ahead and allow more time."
