Thieves have stolen several items from a town centre jewellery store in an overnight raid.

It is believed the suspects broke into the Jewellery Workshop in Market Place, Diss, at about 2.30am today (May 30).

They smashed through the front door of the family-run business and stole several items before escaping in under a minute.

The shop has been forced to close in order for repairs to be carried out but currently, it is not thought any high-value or customer-owned jewellery items were stolen in the burglary.

Owner Jennie Price said: "This has knocked us for six.

"We do everything we can to protect the premises but you can't stop someone ramming through the front door.

"Thankfully due to our security measures, no high-value or our customers' sentimental items were taken.

"It wouldn't have been very profitable for them but the damage is a big cost."

The long-running shop has been in business since 1975 and offers a range of services including restorations and bespoke commissions.

It is the fourth time in its history it has suffered a break-in.

Ms Price added: "The Jewellery Workshop has a long heritage in the town and is well-respected in the community.

"This has cut through that. It is a great sadness when things like this happen and it leaves you feeling violated.

"But ultimately, it was just jewellery that was stolen and no one was harmed.

"It is frustrating that we have been forced to close and have lost some business today but we hope to have the shop secured and be open again tomorrow."
