A MAN has died in a two-car crash on the A4 in Wiltshire.

Wiltshire Police confirmed the news just after 6pm on Bank Holiday Monday, May 29, hours after first responding to an incident in West Kennet, near Marlborough.

A crash had taken place just after midday and involved a white Astra van and a red Land Rover Discovery.

Emergency services responded, but the van driver, a man in his 50s from Marlborough, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: "Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time and we request that their privacy is respected."

A woman in her 50s was taken to hospital to be treated for injuries not thought to be life-threatening.

The road has been closed for the afternoon while emergency services carry out their investigations, and several roadblocks have been set up along the A4 to stop motorists from getting near the scene.

As of just after 6pm, an accident investigator was working at the scene, and it is expected that the A4 between the Burj at the Bell restaurant and Beckhampton roundabout will remain closed until at least Tuesday morning.

Wiltshire Police are now appealing for anyone who saw what happened or anyone who might have dashcam footage to come forward.

"If you saw what happened please contact us on 101 quoting reference number 54230056044," the spokesperson added.
